We have 27 brood jennets that we breed approximately every two years. We have 12 young jennets that will not be bred until they are close to four years of age. As these young jennets are added to our breeding program we will be offering some of our other jennets for sale to keep our herd at a more manageable number. We want to always be able to give each of our donkeys the individual attention that they crave.

Sweet as honey and twice as nice! This little girl has everyone buzzing at Half Ass Acres including the bees. Glow and Firefly sure knew what they were doing making this little beauty. She is so full of personality that she has the entire farm awaiting her grand entrance to the outside paddock on the first sunny day. You can almost see and hear all the other donkeys talking about the new GIRL on the farm and wondering what all the buzz is about over this new foal. She is going to knock their socks off first day out!

Bee has it all….compact little body, heavy bones, straight legs, perfect bite, heads up attitude, unique cinnamon color, and a tiny little star.

Check back often for updates on Bee. Watch for photos of her as she buzzes around playng with all her new friends on our farm. bzzzzz....bzzzzzz......bzzzzzz

Feather was the National Grand Champion Spotted Jennet for 2009. She was bred, raised and shown by Koby Schooler of Frontier Legends Miniature Donkeys in Bertram, Texas. Thank you to Koby, Charla, and Skip and Patsy Oertli for allowing us to purchase this gorgeous black and white tyger spotted jennet. This jennet has the most outstanding temperament of any donkey we have ever purchased. She will join our other brood jennets when she reaches over three years of age. Feather has a forever home here at Half Ass Acres! Feather is photographed above in her winter coat but she does clip off black and white in the summertime. We really meant to body clip her this summer but time just slipped up on us.  We will be sure to retake her photos next spring when the weather is warm enough to wash and clip her so you can see her gorgeous color. Feather will be crossed with Bruise sometime in 2012.

How do we begin…Where do we start?....God has blessed us, yet again, with another gorgeous red jennet from Glow. Every time I look at her I have to say, “Be still my heart”, as I take in all her beauty. Glow is the dam of Little Whiskey Girl, who was 18 ¾" tall at birth (this was before we weighed our foals) and Bee Sting, who was 21½" tall and 23 lbs. at birth, and now Bumbles. What a trio of beautiful red foals Glow has had for us. Of course, let’s don’t forget the contribution made by Firefly with Bumbles and Bee. What a great combination!

Taking pictures of Bumbles was a joy. She already has that show ring stand down pat and the looks to go right in the ring and say, “Look at me”, I’m here to win.” She has a perfect 10 score from us. Bumbles is compact, straight legs, and one of the cutest heads you’ve ever seen. We love her rich, cinnimon red color so much and marvel at the way she holds that head up so high using those gorgeous red ears that look like they are lined with white bunny fur.

You may have guessed it by now, but, she is NOT for sale at this time. She will make an excellent addition to our brood jennets in a few years, and, if we elect to do so, she will be yet another show ring beauty. Until that time we will spend our days admiring her elegance. Bumbles is bff with Ponderosa Leigh.

Thank you to Dena Wilson for her patience and expert handling of our donkeys during their photo sessions. Without Dena these updated photos would not be possible!

Update!! Bumbles is the unofficial "High Point Halter Jennet of Tennessee" after her first and only year of showing!  The official winners will be announced in March 2012, during the year-end award ceremony of The Tennessee Donkey ASSociation.

This is a special one and another keeper. We are building an awesome sorrel herd of donkeys! Leigh is named after our friend, Gary Lee Shebeck from the Ponderosa Donkey Farm in Iowa, who was visiting the night before she was born. I am glad she waited until after he left to arrive or he would have tried to talk me out of her! Sometimes my little bad donkeys are really smart. LOL!!! Ponderosa Leigh is bff with Bumbles.

First of all a BIG THANK YOU to one of our Mare Stare viewers, Canadianlady, who called to wake us up and tell us Bow was in labor. We had been watching Sunshine, who had all the signs of going in to labor, rather than Bow who had no immediate signs of labor. I felt for sure our viewer had made a huge mistake. Not so…Bow 's water had broken and she was in full labor right before our eyes. We, hurriedly, ran to the barn and were able get there for the beautiful birth of a perfect spotted little girl.

You may remember that Bow is the mother of our adored Pony-Tailed Lass who was born 2 years ago with no tail. Many of you helped with her doctor bills for her operations during the fund raiser named "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" that was organized by my cherished friend, Sandy Dorris. Pony Tail is one special little girl and a great mascot for us at Half Ass Acres sent to us from Heaven above. She will remain with us forever. You can now imagine some of our anxiousness about the birth of this foal. When the foal was clear of her mother, we immediately looked to make sure she had her tail. There it was, it was gorgeous, Bow was fine, the baby was fine, and all was right with the world. I told Joe she had the prettiest tail I'd ever seen. Tears of joy, for our dear Bow and her baby, rolled down my face as I gave all the Praise and Glory to our Lord for this baby.

We have named Pony Tail's sister, "Gypsy Heart" for her beautifully colored coat and for all the warmth in our hearts over her birth. She catches your eye dancing around looking like a beautiful gypsy in all her finery. Her stocky little body is covered with spots of several colors. We see dark brown, black, even tones of red. This little spotted girl has it all in one nice solid package.

We were so thrilled to add this wonderful jennet to our future herd jennet band. Her dam, Lady Slipper, has been one of my favorite jennets for several years and we were finally able to talk Jane Savage at Flight of Fancy Miniatures into letting us have them both. As you can see by the photos and videos taken on September 12th, 2009, 2 days after they arrived, they are everything we could hope for. The Miniature Donkey Registry notified us that Pink Nitie's name was too long for the new 30 limit rules so her name is now FOF Aphroditie's Pink Nitie.

Our foaling season this year has been awesome. With each birth we seem to have been blessed with unique and absolutely gorgeous foals.

This is Felina’s second baby, her first, Radiance, is now a Junior Herd Sire at Itsy Bitsy Burro Co. They are more than pleased with him. Hissy looks exactly like her brother, Ray, except she only has a few tiny hairs for a star and Ray has a large star. In fact, she looks so much like him that we would have named her Red Ray if we had not alreeady used that name.

On June 5th, 2009 Felina started the day out as if she was in early labor and was placed in a stall. That did not make her happy so as she continued showing more and more signs of labor so we moved her to the birthing stall. She paced, and paced, and was very agitated to be so confined. We were unable to put her buddy in the next stall because we had filled that stall with hay a few days before. I went in her stall to sit with her and if I tried to leave she threw a fit. Those watching on Mare Stare were talking about how unhappy she seemed to be and wondered what was taking place. One person sent me this text message, “Felina is so spoiled, she even has to have her mom in the delivery room with her. What a hissy fit she is throwing!" That is when we knew what we would name this precious new baby.

New photo and videos were taken on 10/05/10, with the help of my great friend, Dena.

It had only been a month since our last foal, Le Roux, was born but we were already anxiously awaiting the arrival of another foal from Bessie and Badlands. Our foals are so special to us and after each birth we catch ourselves saying “we’ll never have one any nicer than the one just born!”....but with each foaling we fall in love all over again as if it was our very first foal…..and repeat “oh this one is the nicest!"

In the wee hours of the morning Bessie gave birth to the prettiest, no light point, jennet. Her color still has us guessing from time to time but after taking and looking at many pictures it has been decided she is very dark brown. I must say her adoring personality captured our attention and our hearts and once again we were “smitten” by another beautiful foal born to us at Half Ass Acres. Nothing would do but we name this beautiful little girl for what had taken place in our hearts. We were “smitten” with love for her.

Smitten wears her progeny well, taking the best from her gene pool and sporting around the pastures holding her head up high as if to say, “Surely you are “smitten” with my beauty”…and she is right. She is stocky as can be and stands so straight and tall. Her bite is perfect, her legs are perfect, and she is a perfect match for us.

We would love to have you visit our farm so you, too, can be “smitten” with the charm this little girl has to offer. She comes with that guarantee for sure. All the hugs and kisses she will give you are free!

LOOK WHAT SHOWED UP AT OUR FARM!!!!! Is she real or is she a stuffed donkey on wheels??

As all of you know we get very excited about our jennets foaling. We get both excited AND anxious when the jennet is a maiden. Ramona is one of the smallest jennets we own, and, for that reason, we waited beyond her 3rd birthday to breed her. We chose Napoleon to be Ramona’s first “encounter” with a jack. Boy, are we pleased with that pairing. We will certainly have to do a repeat with this love mate.

Ramona basically spit herself out with this little girl. She is ever so tiny but has the biggest heart and personality you can imagine. She struts around wearing her thick dark brown coat, no light points, with head held so high you would think someone had a “string” around her neck taking their “pull-toy” for a stroll in the park.   It was unbelievable how perfectly balanced she looked immediately following her birth.  Joe and I were anxious to get her weight and height…..she was a 4 X 4 … 19 ½“ tall and weighed 19 ¼ lbs. She was about as big as a square stick of butter full of lots of sugar. She had all the ingredients of a square piece of delicious chocolate cake. Yum, Yum.. we could just smooch on her all day. Like a sweet piece of cake, we simply cannot get enough of “Pull- String Toy”. Thank you, Sandy Dorris, for thinking of the perfect name for her!!

We are thrilled to have this tiny "knock- out" black jenny with a huge star added to our future brood jennet band. She has a beautiful and very unusual “blue” eye. (although, as ADMS explains, it is technically a “grey” eye unlike the blue pinto eye).

We are very excited to add her to our herd but very sad that Jane Savage of Flight of Fancy Miniatures is now retiring from the miniature donkey business so that she and her husband will be free to travel around the world if they like. Jane has been a valuable asset to the miniature donkey world and a wonderful mentor to me. Thank you, Jane, for allowing your best to come and live at Half Ass Acres! Please don't ask me if I will sell this jennet. I want her to stay right here at Half Ass Acres. I have already been talked out of too many of my Flight of Fancy girls and I just don't want to part with anymore of them.
